Well done to Jake Brown, Sam Wyss & Elloise Houghton for getting into the top 40 of this years Young Drummer Of The Year competition!
Elloise (age 13) was the only young lady in the top 40 so shes definitely top drum girl!
Good luck for the final to all the players who get there!
Well done to Jake for playing brilliantly in this years YDOTY final!
Jake was the youngest drummer playing and although he didn't take the title I would have put him in the top 3 on the day! I'm sure he'll be back next year! The standard of all the players was incredibly high and they should all be congratulated. The judging panel was immense with Jake playing to Ian Paice, Nick Mason and Karl Brazil amongst others. This is the 8th year of the competition and the fourth time I've had a student in the finals (plus a couple in the top 40 several times, including Jake and Tom Loasby last year...) and every year they amaze me!
Here's what Drummer Magazine said about Jakes playing:
As the youngest entrant, Jake really raised some eyebrows and dropped some jaws. His Jazz and Latin solo displayed sensitivity and a vast technical and dynamic range, not to mention creativity and a beautiful touch. His rudimental accuracy continued through the band tracks too, where Jake played with a deep pocket and a sympathetic use of his vast palette of sounds. Definitely one to look out for!
Jake joined me on stage at this years UK Custom Drum Festival for a bit of
double drum trouble!
Kicked off the kit!
Congratulations to Jake Brown for getting into the final of this years UK Young Drummer Of the Year Competition! We've been working on his piece for the last few months and finally filmed it at mine and got it sent of a few days before the deadline! He's worked really hard, as he always does and it sounds fantastic! The final is at the end of January and I wish all the finalists a great day and you should all be very proud to be there!
Jake will be joining Joe Blanks (pretending to be Hermione in the poster above...) twice YDOTY finalist and another very drumtastic student of mine, along with myself and JoBeky Drums (all JB's from Stafford...) for the JB D Tour making lots of rhythmic noise for your entertainment at a drum clinic near you soon! Check back here for details...
Congratulations to Ben Archer & Jake Brown for making it through to the top 40 of the 2011 Young Drummer Of The Year Competition.
Extra well done to Jake who has made it through to the final for a
second year running! Lets hope he takes the title this year!
We are already working hard on his piece!
